This week I bring you author Dee Kelly as our spotlight author. She was kind enough to answer our questions, and share about her work. Let’s all give her a big round of applause.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Sure! My name is Dee Kelly and I’m the author of The Acceptance Series. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have two amazing boys. If I’m not at a football game, baseball game, or track meet I’m usually writing. I love people with a sense of humor especially ones who appreciate my sarcasm.
Tell us about your latest project. I’m working on a few right now. I think Chasing Cassidy will be my next release and it should be out in July. It’s a contemporary romance about a runaway bride and the groom who loves her enough to chase after her.
What is your favorite book and why? To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s the first book I really feel impacted me in a soul searing way.
What do you like to do when you need a break from writing? Spend time with my friends and family. Margarita nights are a must!
Where do you usually write? Do you write in silence or with music or other background sounds? Funny enough I like to curl up on my husband’s side of the bed with my laptop to write. I feel like Sheldon in Big Bang Theory. That spot is mine. For whatever reason that’s where my creative juices like to flow. Mostly I write in silence but every once in a while I need music to help get me in a creative mood.
Who is your inspiration? What inspired you to become a writer? My kids are my inspiration. I look at them and want to be a better version of myself. I always wanted to write but with the launch of ereaders and the self-publishing boom my husband convinced me to follow my dreams.
What is your least favorite part of being an author? Marketing. I would love to get to the point where I could afford a PR team.
What is your favorite part of being an author? Interacting with the readers has to be the best part. When you receive a message from a reader and they are letting you know how much you’ve touched them with your story there is no better feeling.
What is your favorite motivational phrase, and why? Hmmm…that’s a hard question. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” is one I come back to often. I’m not the kind of person who likes being out of her comfort zone. Yet I know in order to be a successful author I have to leave my comfort zone and often. This phrase reminds me that it’s not only okay but the best is yet to come.
Do you have a writing space? Tell us what it’s like. I do have a writing space but I hardly use it. I have a small desk and a big comfy chair, two monitors and of course speakers for when I do want music. Oh and pens! Lots and lots of pens. I’m a total pen whore.
Author Bio:
I’m a wife, a mom and a dog lover. I’m also a taxi, problem fixer, extreme multi-tasker and my kids biggest fan in anything that they do. I love to write, so when my career suddenly derailed I turned back to my love of writing. I married my high school sweetheart… how cool is that? Margaritas and sarcasm make me happy. Chocolate makes that happiness grow exponentially. People who make me laugh are my favorite kind of people. I believe Karma is a bitch who slaps back hard and that mean people suck. I’m California born and raised, I love the beach but hate the sand. The Acceptance Series is my first series with more books to come soon.
